How to Activate EDD Debit Cards in California

When you are ready to activate your EDD Debit Card, you can simply call the EDD Debit Card Customer Service toll-free number, or you can visit the online customer service at the Bank of America EDD website. Once you have activated your EDD card and selected a Personal Identification Number (PIN), you can use your card straight away. You can use your card to check your balance 24/7 using the number on your card, at the Bank of America EDD website or at an ATM. You may also sign up for mobile and text alerts for your balance.

Are there any fees for my EDD debit card account in California?

You will usually not have to pay any fees with your EDD card unless you go over your allowable number of free transactions at non-Bank of America ATMs. You can use your Bank of America EDD debit card for a maximum of two free ATM withdrawals per deposit at non-Bank of America ATMs. Free EDD debit card benefits also include:

  • A cash-back option when you make purchases at a drug store, a grocery store or a U.S. post office.
  • Unlimited withdrawals at Bank of America ATMs.
  • Unlimited direct deposit transfers to checking or savings accounts.

Limits may be imposed on your EDD debit card account in certain circumstances. EDD card limits may be imposed due to some form of suspicious activity. Typically, your ATM EDD debit card withdrawals must be made in multiples of a fixed amount. Some ATMs may have a maximum daily withdrawal limit or a maximum amount that you can withdraw in one transaction. If you wish, you may transfer some or all of the money on your EDD debit card to your checking or savings account. You must make direct deposit transfer requests via the Bank of America. Any UI benefits, PFL payments or DI benefits you have not used will stay on your card, as long as it is still valid. Because your EDD card is not connected to a line of credit, it will not show up on your credit report.

How to Replace EDD Debit Card in California

You can obtain an EDD Debit Card replacement free-of-charge if your card is lost, stolen or damaged. To have a replacement EDD Debit Card mailed to you, contact the Bank of America EDD Debit Card customer service toll-free number. Your EDD Debit Card is valid for three years from its issue date. You will automatically receive a new card if there has been a deposit or a transaction on your card within the last 90 days, or if you have a minimum balance of a certain amount. Receiving a new card does not necessarily mean that a new claim is reopened, nor does it necessarily mean that you are eligible to receive further payments from DI benefits, PFL or UI.

How to Dispute a Transaction on your Employment Development Department (EDD) Debit Card in California

If you feel there has been a transaction on your EDD Debit Card that is incorrect or was not authorized, then you should contact the Bank of America EDD Debit Card Customer Service toll-free number. You should alert the bank of your EDD Debit Card dispute as soon as possible. The Bank of America EDD Debit Card Customer Service will need to hear from you no later than 60 days after you noticed the error on your account.
